Nazım Hikmet & Vera

The story of Nazım Hikmet and Vera Tulyakova starts in 1955. Vera was 23 and Nazım was 53 years old when they meet. Nazım Hikmet writes tons of poems, letters and memories for his last love Vera about his love for her. Nazım expresses how great his love for Vera is...

The inspiration behind the collection is a letter Nazım wrote for Vera. Vera, my love, says Nazım, and draws a sun, I took another sun from you, and adds my heart is like a flowering branch in spring, by drawing a blooming branch in the letter. He also writes, You can not imagine how much I love you... and goes on saying that, my beautiful, sweet, smart love... He draws a world burning in flames, and adds, My world would be like this without you He writes that the voice of his lover sounded really gloomy and draws an open eye expressing that he doesnt get any sleep. Nazım ends his letter saying that, My joy, I havent told this to anyone in my life, I love you... Nazım.

Nazım calls Vera from every country and city he goes, sends letters and postcards to express his love for Vera. In 1959, he sends a postcard to Vera. He writes; You are my love, my daughter, my comrade and my little mother. I hadnt known even how to love the earth before I met you. The city is beautiful and apples taste delicious just because of you. This man wouldnt be sane, if it werent for you.

Nazım Hikmet would tell Vera about his life, his memories from the past and his thoughts and Vera makes notes of them. Waiting for a word from his country until his last day, Nazım hopes that his writings reach up to his country one day. Nazım and Veras love was a proof that love knows no age. With the Nazım and Vera collection, Melie reminds us the legendary love story once again.
